Legacy reporting moved to Microsoft Fabric and Power BI

Replaced an old Cubeware system for an isolutions client: lower running costs, and reporting options the old system could not offer.

The problem

The client’s reporting ran on an old Cubeware system. It had to move to Microsoft Fabric and Power BI without losing the reporting the business relied on: the datasets behind it, the SQL logic, the calculated measures and the finished reports.

My part

I migrated the reporting end to end, in four parts:

Datasets into Fabric.
SQL functions and views that the reports depend on.
Measures, rebuilt as Power BI measures.
Reports, rebuilt in Power BI.

Result

The reporting pipelines and reports were migrated from Cubeware to Microsoft Fabric and Power BI successfully. The move reduced costs for the client and gave them new reporting possibilities in Fabric that the old system did not offer.
